That Faron Young song reminds me of the time years ago when I was living in downtown Norfolk with Joe and Steve, and late one night Steve came home depressed because his girlfriend had just broken up with him so Joe and I decided to take him out to eat somewhere and try to cheer him up a bit. At about 2 in the morning the only thing open in that part of town was the 24-hour diner that primarily catered to insomniac truckers and nightowls after the local bumpkin bar gave last call. Some twisted previous patron must have thought it would be hi-larious if they programmed "Hello Walls" on the jukebox over and over again, which couldn't have been a worse song to have as your background score while trying to buck up your recently jilted roommate. Yet it was the fact that it kept repeating that kept us all in stitches throughout the night, and after the 8th or 9th play in a row the three of us were nearly under the greasy Formica table with laughter. I think for several months later whenever one of us experienced an emotional loss of some kind, whether getting our cars broken into (which happens a lot in Norfolk) or me being distraught over losing my favorite hair brush (also happens more often than you'd think) one of us would often pipe in with "Hello, walls...." which would instantly disarm any situation no matter how grief-stricken we'd get. I find it still works, too, under certain circumstances.
